Il Ponte Pietra
Il ponte Pietra fu eretto nel luogo in cui, molto probabilmente, esisteva un guado fin dalla preistoria: ai piedi del colle di San Pietro, dove il fiume ha minore larghezza e sponde più solide. E’ il più antico monumento romano di Verona (I secolo a.C.). Non sappiamo come venisse chiamato in età antica; il nome attuale deriva dal termine usato nel Medioevo: Pons Lapideus(= ponte fatto di pietra).The Pietra bridge
The Pietra bridge has been built in the place where, most probably, there was a turnaround since the prehistory: at the basement of the San Pietro’s hill, where the river has smaller widths and banks more solid. It is the oldest Roman monument in Verona (Ist century b.C.). We don’t know how it was called in ancient times; the actual name derives from the term used in the Middle Ages: Pons Lapideus(=bridge made of stone).
