LA GRANDE ALLUVIONE
(17-22 Settembre 1882)
Una terribile inondazione devasta la città: crollano molte case, ed è spazzato via il Ponte Nuovo: il Gen. Pianell guida con grande energia l'opera di soccorso e l'Esercito si prodiga oltre ogni dire e, come ricorda la targa bronzea posta sulla torre dell'orologio di Castelvecchio, "salvò Verona da più grande sventura". Dopo di ciò si adopera affinché si costruiscano quei "muraglioni" di contenimento del fiume che, iniziati nel 1884, verranno finiti dopo la sua morte, avvenuta il 5 aprile 1892.

THE GREAT FLOOD

A terrible floos devastated the city: fell down a lot of houses and was destroyed the Ponte Nuovo; the General Pianelli managed with big power the saved work and the Army saved Verona from the big nightmare like said the bronze plaque located on the clock tower of Castelvecchio. In addition to this were built the river's contaunment wall, which started in the 1884, were finished after his death that was the 5th April 1892.
